The 1% Family Reset: 5 Tiny Habits to Start This Week Together

The 1% Family Reset: 5 Tiny Habits to Start This Week Together

Every Monday we tell ourselves this is the week. Early workouts, home-cooked dinners, no phones at the table. By Wednesday, life wins.

Here's what we've learned: big resets don't stick. Tiny ones do. Get 1% better at something small, do it again tomorrow, and let it add up.

So welcome to The Daily Refocus, our brand-new blog. Every day we’ll share one small way to feel better, together. To kick things off, here are five tiny resets to choose from for the rest of this week.

1. One glass before one screen

Before anyone in the house picks up a phone or turns on a TV, everyone drinks a glass of water. That's it. It takes 30 seconds, the kids think it's a game, and you start the day hydrated instead of scrolling.

2. The two-minute tidy

Set a timer for two minutes after dinner. Everyone picks up whatever they can before it goes off. Two minutes feels easy, so nobody argues, and the house looks different by bedtime.

3. Walk and talk

Take one 15-minute walk together this week. No destination, no phones. Kids tend to open up when you're walking side by side instead of face to face. You'll hear things you'd never hear at the dinner table.

4. The highlight question

At dinner or bedtime, ask: "What was the best part of your day?" Then answer it yourself. It trains everyone, adults included, to notice the good stuff.

5. A Sunday 10

On Sunday evening, spend 10 minutes looking at the week ahead: who needs to be where, what's for dinner on the busy nights, and one thing each person is looking forward to. Calm weeks usually start with a calm Sunday.

How to make it stick

  • Pick one. Not five. One habit you'll actually do.
  • Attach it to something you already do. Water before phones, tidy after dinner, the question at bedtime.
  • Expect to miss a day. Missing once is normal. Missing twice is the new habit trying to slip. Just start again tomorrow.

Our morning, for what it's worth

In our house, habit #1 is the one that stuck. The kids get water, and the grown-ups mix a scoop of ReFocus+ Strawberry Lemonade into ours. It's zero sugar, with electrolytes, L-theanine, GABA and lemon balm, and it's the easiest way we've found to start the day hydrated. ReFocus+ is made for adults, so the kids stick to plain or fruit-infused water.

Your turn

And come back tomorrow for Family Table: the 10-minute after-school reset that calmed our house.
